About The Coach

Hey! My name is Jen Chmiel, and I am a climbing coach (certified strength and conditioning specialist, certified single pitch instructor, and M.S. in exercise physiology). I have been climbing for just over 6 years, where I have held positions in climbing gyms as head routesetter, manager, adult program manager, climbing guide, and well of course climbing coach. I started Face The Climb, to reach more climbers and further the impact I could have. Spreading the message that training for climbing isn’t just left to the climbing gym bros and v8+ boulderers. Training for climbing can be for any climber. Yet I know it it can feel complicated, overwhelming, and time consuming. I try to help climbers see that training for climbing can be simple and digestible and they too can train.

Majority of the climbers I work with are brand new to climbing to their first couple years, climbing under 5.12 and v6 and aren’t bulging with muscles. They are parents, teachers, 9-5 workers, late 20s to early 60s, hikers, book readers, nurses, and more. Climbing is one aspect of their life, not their whole life, and we celebrate that here.

FAQs

  • Yes! Each week there is a a boulder workout and rope workout which you can choose between depending on which discipline you prefer

  • This program does not require any lifting equipment and does not require lifting experience. It includes bodyweight and core workouts that you can do on your own time right in your house. Making it even easier to implement and complete in our already busy lives. There are videos for each of the bodyweight/core exercises and explanations so you know how to complete them.

  • If you can climb a v2 and/or a 5.8 in a session then this program is for you! Even if you climb v1s/5.7s you can do this program! You will just have to create some of your own climbs/add feet on for some of the drills. If you have concerns or more questions about that, write me an email: jen@facetheclimb.com.   • Through an app called Teambuildr, an online training app. In the app you can record progress, take notes about your workouts, and upload videos of your climbing to go back to an watch. You are also able to converse with other climbers through the app taking the program. I hop in that group feed 1x/week for accountability and support.

  • You have access to the program for 1 year from date of purchase.

  • No this is a standardized, progressive climbing training program. There are videos, from me the coach, in the app for each workout explaining how to tailor to where you are at in your climbing and climbing level. There are also pre assessments you will do to let you know which bodyweight/core workout Level (Level1 or Level2) you will be doing for the length of the programming.

  • If you are looking for a more customized training program and full support from me, I recommend full support 1:1 coaching. You can find more about that here

  • Results will be dependent on how much effort you put in and if you continually show up and see the program through. Will you see the same results as 1:1 customized training? No. Yet you can still see climbing gains. Climbers who are new to training, usually begin to see results after 2 months. Yet every person is different and like mentioned previously, depends on how much effort you put in. Results could include, not limited too, increase climbing grade, improve confidence within their climbing, making moves that which couldn’t be done before, being able to climb on new terrain, being able to have longer climbing sessions, and/or being able to give more high quality attempts on projects.
